Mangala Sharma is originally from Bhutan. Now, she lives in Roseville, MN. Prior coming to the US, Mangala Sharma was actively involved in the advocacy for durable solution on behalf of Bhutanese refugees who lived in eastern part of Nepal.
Mangala helped formed Bhutanese Refugee Aiding for Victim of Violence ( BRAVVE). BRAVVE was an active non-profit that helped hundreds of people developed life skills that is helping them now getting assimilated faster in their new resettlement country. Mangala continues to advocate for durable solutions of all Bhutanese refugees in Nepal. Mangala received numerous awards including the First Ginetta Sagan Award from Amnesty International for her advocacy work. At present, Mangala works with Commonbond communities providing services to residents living in their properties. Having the ability to reach out to the Bhutanese community in their native language, Nepalese, is imperative to the success of this project. Mangala was our translator for each interview conducted for this oral history project.
